Where Is A Good Place To Go Clubbing Or Have Some Drinks With My Friends ?

10th September 2009

I’ll be staying in Swissotel the Stamford near Raffles City Convention Center. Where is a good place to listen to some good music, enjoy some nice drinks and have good conversations with friends near where I stay ? Or if not, where is the coolest hang out place now in Singapore ?

    Heyah,
The New Asia Bar upstairs on the 70th floor of the Swissotel is a pretty good drinking spot altho it might be a little too loud for conversation once the night wears on. However, the view is superb, I must say, and the happy hour is pretty hard to beat.
However, if you want someplace to go for dinner, then drinks and then clubbing without having to move too much from one place to the next, I would suggest going to Clarke Quay.
It’s about 5 blocks from the Swissotel (walking time 20-30 minutes, by taxi 5-7 mins, by bus service number 195 from the busstop at St Andrew’s Cathedral across the road) is 6-10 mins – but waiting time is about 15 mins!).
Clarke Quay has practically EVERYTHING you want.
Firstly, there are loads of restuarants selling all types of cuisine from Indian to Italian to Scottish to Japanese to local.
Then there are “specialist” watering holes such as The Clinic (done in a hospital motif – your chairs are wheelchairs, you eat off a gurney, and your drinks come in IV bags…!), and Highlander (great for if you like true blue Scotch whiskey).
If you like live music, places such as China One, The Arena, Crazy Elephant (great blues-rock music), Pump Room, Cuba Libre (great Cuban food and music) are just some of the joints there.
The biggest clubbing venue for dancing at Clarke Quay is the Ministry Of Sound, where you get the best beats in town (arguably), but you can still get your groove on at some of the other clubs listed above like Cuba Libre and the Arena.
And if you’re an Amex Card holder, quite a few of the joints there give you some good offers, I am told.
What’s more, just across the river is Riverside Point, best known for Brewerkz, a microbrewery with some excellent homebrew, and this Indonesian restaurant that does some pretty good food.
Just next to Riverside is Central, the newest retail/shopping hub that also has restaurants (its best known for the Japanese eateries there.)
Over at Robertson Quay – just cross Clemenceau Ave, I think -more eateries and bars, such as Bar Celona, Harry’s Bar, etc offer good venues for having drinks and conversation with friends, although there are no clubbing venues there…
I don’t think you’ll go far wrong at Clarke Quay.

Since you are staying in Swissotel Stamford you should at least go visit the New Asia Bar which is located on the 74th Floor of your hotel. It has a really nice view.
For the really cool hang out currently try:
St James Powerhouse – located opp Vivo City on the way to Sentosa.
It has 7 different theme clubs located in one area – you get different styles from House to R&B to even Cantopop paying cover at one place allows you to move to other places within St James as well. Oh .. it opens till 5am
MOS (ministry of sound) – Located in Clark Quay
Francised from UK MOS, the club house about 4 different rooms. You can visit a Retro room (with all the crystal balls) or the R&B room (with a cage) or the main room that plays basically house. Another nice thing about MOS is if you get bored you can leave and go club hopping around clerk quay which has lots of othe clubs like Kandi Bar – chill out, Fashion Bar – People dressing up to the 9s, Clinic – Where you can order drink that are on IV drips, Arena – One of the Biggest Live Band Clubs around.
    Have fun!

Whitehawk has the best two options that I would have recommended as well
If you want more time, hang out within the hotel
Nearest point would be St. James next to VivoCity (in case you would like to change the setting)
